A few years ago, the only reference I had to frankincense was the story of the three wise men and baby Jesus (said like Daryl Hannah in Steel Magnolias).
When I discovered frankincense essential oil, I was impressed by the wide array of uses this one essential oil has.
Today, I wanted to share some of the best uses for one of my favorite essential oils.
1. Immune system support
Rub a drop onto the bottom of each foot each day or diffuse in the air to build and maintain a healthy immune system.
2. Clear skin
To reduce the size of blemishes, dab on tea tree essential oil. To help blemishes fade quickly, dab on frankincense essential oil.
3. Stress
Frankincense essential oil promotes feeling of calm and relaxation. Rub a drop onto the bottoms of your feet in the morning or apply behind your ears when you feel stressed.
4. Occasional head tension
My go-to remedy when my head needs some TLC is a drop each of lavender and frankincense essential oils. Rub into the temples and forehead.
5. Reduce scar appearance
Frankincense is excellent at reducing the appearance of scars and rejuvenating skin. Mix a drop of frankincense with a drop or two of fractionated coconut oil and rub onto scars morning and night.
6. Bee Stings
We’ve gotten near-immediate relief from bee stings using frankincense essential oil. Apply a drop to the sting.
7. Strong nails
Want beautiful, strong fingernails? Rub frankincense essential oil into your nails to strengthen and nourish them.
8. Soothing owies
Mix a couple drops of frankincense essential oil with one tablespoon of coconut oil for an easy balm to make owies feel better quickly. Frankincense is also used to optimize skin repair.
Or, use my multipurpose herbal healing balm, which already contains frankincense.
9. Skin Beautifying
Dilute 2 drops in a 1/4 tsp of coconut oil and apply after washing your face to moisturize, soften and refresh skin.
10. Back and joint discomfort
Apply 1-2 drops of frankincense essential oil to tired, achy joints and lower back for relief.
Where to get frankincense essential oil
The most cost-effective way to get frankincense essential oil is as part of an essential oil starter kit. The Home Essentials kit is perfect for your minimalist natural home. I love and use doTERRA’s frankincense essential oils almost every day. You can save 25% by becoming a wholesale member and getting a discount on all essential oil orders.
Get it free in December
You know what’s awesome about doTERRA? Well, there are lots of things, but one of my favorite is that in December they run a promotion where you get free frankincense.
Yes, a 15 ml bottle of frankincense that’s normally $93, for FREE with any 200 pv order.
If you’re not an existing wholesale member, get started now by getting a kit. Seriously. It’s a great way to save money on oils, there’s no pressure to buy or sell the oils, no monthly order minimums and you always get a 25% discount. Spend 200 pv or more and you’ll get your free frank. Boom!
If you’re an existing wholesale member, sign into your back office and place a 200 pv order and they’ll include the free bottle in the delivery. Awesome!
How do I know how many pv I’m spending when I buy retail?
This is great! Thanks! I make an amazing frankincense and wild orange body scrub: http://www.morethanmundane.com/2013/11/27/delightful-frankincense-wild-orange-sugar-scrub/
I love this! Thank you! I have my LRP order ready to go for tomorrow =) I have learned so much about doterra from you, I feel bad that I am not on YOUR downline! (I don’t know my upline personally, I just joined through a link then started doing research…SO I’m kind of on my own)
I have been wanting Frankincense but it’s so expensive! And I buy a ton of doTERRA oils…what exactly does 200 pv come out to? Is being a member the same as being a sales consultant?
Yes, unless you sign up for the preferred membership. Most of the people on my team are Independent Product Consultants and a good portion of them signed up for the 25% discount and Loyalty Rewards Program. The business building is optional.
I’m going to call customer service tomorrow and ask what 200 pv looks like for retail customers. It says any order, but retail orders don’t show pv. I’ll update here with what I find out.
Jennifer, I was told that any $200 order that is placed from December 1st-31st will qualify for a free Frankincense.
Can you use the oil by itself for the acne fade? Or do you need a carrier oil?
I use it by itself, Annika.
Thanks for this recipe! I will be making this for these harsh So Cal Winters 🙂
However, I have a question: I notice that when I have made salves and balms that contain beeswax in the past, once the product begins to cool down, the beeswax rises to the top of the mixture cools and solidifies leaving the oils, etc. on the bottom. How can I prevent this problem from happening again? Thanks Nina
I’m not really sure. I know most people use beeswax because it’s more readily available, but I’ve had a giant bag of candelilla wax for a few years that I’ve been using and haven’t had that problem. Anyone else have suggestions?
Thanks for getting the answer for me, Nina. Hopefully that can work it’s way into the budget before 12/1…ha. I can’t help Kristen, but I sure would be interested in the answer.
I am interested in being a member or ever how I can get discount as they are expensive and I would like to use
